Then and Now: Meet Kim Jarvis from our Atlantic Region Operations

Kim Jarvis has a deep-rooted history with our offshore operations. While on a recent visit to the SeaRose, our floating, production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel, she recalled the first time she saw the ship at just eight years old. The SeaRose was in Marystown, NL, for fabrication, installation and commissioning of topsides in 2004-2005, and there was a family day for the craft. Kim’s father, who was a welder on the project, brought Kim to tour the vessel. Nearly two decades later, Kim returned to the SeaRose as a production engineer.

Kim kickstarted her engineering career as a student at Cenovus in 2017, while completing her mechanical engineering degree at Memorial University. Following graduation, she participated in our New Grad Program, completing rotations in Grande Prairie, Lloydminster and Calgary, exposing her to the diverse oil and natural gas operations across our business, fueling her passion and preparing her for a career with us. Today, Kim is completing her Master's in Engineering Management at the University of Ottawa.

When asked what drew her to engineering, she explains that she has been immersed in it her entire life. “My dad still remembers working on the SeaRose, and having this connection with him is so special,” Kim shares. “I also have a sister and cousin who are both engineers and having them as female role models inspired me to pursue this path.”

As a production engineer in our Atlantic region, Kim thrives in the fast-paced environment where she learns something new every day. Her focus lies on ensuring safe and optimized production from the White Rose wells. The complexity of oil and gas operations, particularly in the Atlantic region, when it involves operating wells 120 metres below the ocean, is what drives her motivation. She also takes great pride in the contributions of our industry and company in the region, both culturally and economically.

“As a child, I didn’t realize the scope of the SeaRose project, I was just a kid going to see where my dad worked. Who knew what it would mean to me now.” Kim says. “It’s been full circle for me – 20 years ago, I didn’t understand the significance of this project for my province, and it's amazing to see what it’s become and to be able to support the positive impact this work creates.
