Candace Newman

Senior Vice-President, People Services

As Senior Vice-President, People Services, Candace is accountable for building organizational capability and capacity to support Cenovus’s business activities, to deliver on the company’s strategy. She leads the human resources, workplace operations and real estate teams as well as company communications.

Candace has extensive experience working in the oil and gas and financial industries, including in the areas of human resources, corporate strategy, project management and stakeholder relations. She has been with Cenovus since 2023 and previously served as the company’s Vice-President, Human Resources. Prior to Cenovus, Candace spent six years at LNG Canada in various senior leadership roles, including Chief Human Resources Officer & Vice-President, HR and Real Estate and HR Director. Before joining LNG Canada, Candace held senior leadership roles with Shell Canada, leading the company’s HR strategy in its heavy oil portfolio, and worked at Suncor Energy and its predecessor company in growth operations and talent acquisition. She began her career with CIBC in a variety of finance roles before moving into human resources.

Candace holds a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Society from the University of Calgary and an MBA in Finance from the University of Calgary. She also holds a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation.
