Tawâw Park: Come in, you’re welcome

Tawâw is the Cree word for ‘come in, you’re welcome’ or ‘there is always room for one more’. And that is exactly the goal of Tawâw Park, the newly announced inclusive, natural space in the Town of Lamont.

“This project is the result of a collaboration between six project partners – including a $100,000 donation from Cenovus Energy,” shares Malina Adams, Senior Community & Indigenous Affairs Advisor at Cenovus. “When the Town of Lamont approached us to support this new outdoor wellness space, we were eager to get involved as part of our commitment to supporting healthy, safe and resilient communities.”

In the spirit of reconciliation, Tawâw Park will include several Indigenous elements, including an orange footbridge to emphasize the importance of a safe space for children – orange reflecting that every child matters and representing Orange Shirt Day. Indigenous youth artists will also be invited to decorate the space.

“At Cenovus, we act with purpose in everything we do and believe in building resilient communities where we live, work and play,” says Bill Soini, Superintendent, Canadian Downstream Terminals at Cenovus. “We have a strong connection to the Town of Lamont, where our Bruderheim Rail Terminal is located, and we hope the community will enjoy this new recreational space.”

“Tawâw Park will provide an inclusive space for residents and visitors alike to interact and build positive experiences,” says Mayor Kirk Perrin, Town of Lamont. “The town is appreciative of the partners who have helped bring this project to realization. This is a meaningful first step towards reconciliation.”

Construction of Tawâw Park is slated to begin in early fall 2023 and residents should be able to enjoy the new space later this year.
