Lima Refinery marks 135th anniversary with grant for skill development programs

To celebrate the Lima Refinery’s 135th anniversary, Cenovus Energy has announced a US$250,000 investment in MakerSpace, an organization helping develop skilled professionals—providing space to hone their craft, collaborate with others and advance their careers.

This investment will help fund general skilled trades, a process operator certification and other skill development activities at a new development in downtown Lima, Ohio.

“Cenovus supports the ambitions of MakerSpace, a place for creativity and creating, with the possibilities of skill development, skilled worker training, and connecting the people of this community to meaningful work and opportunities at the refinery and other great employers,” says Rhona DelFrari, Cenovus Chief Sustainability Officer & Senior Vice-President, Stakeholder Engagement.

The Lima Refinery has an ever-pressing need for skilled workers to operate and support the refinery, making the partnership with MakerSpace a great opportunity to fill those needs while reviving the refinery’s process operator certificate program.

“Marking the anniversary with such a partnership allows us to further opportunities for this community, which has long supported the refinery,” says Claudio Ingaramo, Cenovus Energy Vice-President, Lima Refining, U.S. Refining.
