From STEM to stern: Supporting students at each stage of their academic journey
At Cenovus Energy, we provide scholarships to a diverse group of students to improve access to education and skills training and prepare young people for their future. We have an Indigenous scholarship for Indigenous students residing in Canada near our operating areas who are pursuing a full-time degree, diploma or certified trade. We also have a STEM scholarship focused on empowering and attracting enthusiastic high achievers pursuing an education in science, engineering, technology or math (STEM) disciplines.
Our STEM scholarships are available to eligible students in Canada and the U.S., and are valued at $5,000 in local currency, whether CAD or USD. Beyond the financial assistance, recipients are also provided with development opportunities, as well as various engagement activities throughout the year to help them become part of our future workforce of experts.
“Our support goes well beyond paying tuition for these students,” says Syna Birjandian, Manager, Employee Experience. “It’s about removing barriers so they can focus on their studies, develop their skills, broaden their network and identify job opportunities for their future. We strive to support them throughout their student careers.”
In 2023, we awarded 40 STEM scholarships, and we’re more than doubling that in 2024, increasing the total number of recipients to 100.
See what some of our past scholarship recipients had to say below:

“Receiving this scholarship has brought me immense relief and excitement, knowing that my financial burdens will be eased, and I can fully focus on my academic pursuits. Cenovus’s belief in my abilities and investment in my education has not only validated my hard work but has also given me the motivation to strive for excellence continuously. Thank you for making a significant difference in my life.”
