Growing the oil and gas sector helps grow Canada's economy

The Canadian oil and gas sector is Canada’s largest export industry and one of the largest contributors to the national economy. Corporate income taxes paid by energy companies and the businesses in their supply chains, as well as royalties paid on oil and gas production, provide revenue that helps governments fund education, healthcare, roads (infrastructure) and many other critical services for Canadians. A strong energy sector supports jobs and attracts investment. Growing Canada’s oil and gas industry strengthens the economy, and that further benefits communities across Canada.

Energy security is national and economic security

Global energy demand continues to grow, and Canada – a secure, reliable and responsible producer – can help meet that demand. Making the most of this opportunity, to the benefit of all Canadians, means increasing the amount of oil and gas Canada produces. And to support that growth, Canada’s oil and gas industry requires a competitive business environment, backed by policies and regulations that encourage growth and attract investment. The recent trilateral agreement with the Alberta and federal governments establishes a framework for collaboration on production growth, emissions reductions and expanded market access. In partnership with our oil sands peers, work will continue with both governments to help unlock the full potential of Canada’s energy sector and strengthen Canada’s position as an energy superpower on the global stage.
