Invested in our communities: Announcing the Lloydminster Cenovus Energy Hub
The community of Lloydminster is welcoming the region’s highly-anticipated event facility – the Cenovus Energy Hub.
In partnership with the City of Lloydminster, we’re investing $5 million to support recreation and cultural opportunities in the area. This 15-year investment is our largest social investment to date in the Lloydminster area and will help support the construction of a vibrant new space and development of engaging programming for residents.
"Our history in the Lloydminster area goes back more than 80 years, and we plan to be an important part of the community for a long time to come," said Jon McKenzie, Cenovus President & Chief Executive Officer. "I'm looking forward to coming back when the project is complete and seeing the Cenovus Energy Hub full of families and youth enjoying themselves."
Located at the core of a new entertainment district, the Cenovus Energy Hub will feature an NHL-sized ice surface and seating capacity of 2,000.
“In a way, Lloydminster is a reflection of who we are as a company,” says Rhona DelFrari, Cenovus’s Chief Sustainability Officer & Executive Vice-President, Stakeholder Engagement. “It has all three areas of our business – upstream, midstream and downstream assets -- operating closely together in a single region that will play an increasingly important role in our long-term, integrated strategy. This investment symbolizes just how important this city and community are to the future success of our company.”
The investment helps advance our social investment commitment to supporting healthy, safe and resilient communities as well as future-ready youth. Through this dedicated space, we aim to promote year-round community engagement, bringing residents together and providing them with an opportunity to celebrate and connect.
"I am thrilled to witness the collaboration between the City of Lloydminster and Cenovus as they join forces to support recreation and cultural opportunities for our community," said Lloydminster Mayor Gerald Aalbers. "This partnership signifies the importance of strong relationships between local government and corporate entities. Cenovus's support will undoubtedly enhance the quality of life for our residents and visitors.
"With the Cenovus Energy Hub as our flagship facility, we are poised to become a hub for national events, attracting visitors and showcasing the vibrancy and potential of Lloydminster on a national stage."
Lloydminster residents can expect to see construction on the Cenovus Energy Hub to begin later this year with completion of the facility expected by the end of 2025. To learn more, visit cenovusenergyhub.ca.
